Not pictured are dining room, fully outfitted kitchen (with cool, period sink and stove), washer and dryer.
Additional twin mattress or futon available.
Vegetarian/vegan guests will be happy to know meat is not permitted in the house. No need to worry about prior guests leaving animal residues on those pots and dishes!
People with chemical sensitivities will be relieved to know that there have been no pesticides used in the house for the past four and a half years. Windows are usually open so the air is fresh.
Our house is "green" in that paint and other materials used by us to restore it are almost exclusively low voc and we clean with natural, biodegradable products. Sheets are all cotton and beds have quilts and (rescued) down/feather duvets. Floors are bare except for minimal rugs.
Our front yard has been planted to provide habitat and food for wildlife. Butterflies and birds frequent the plants for nectar, foliage, berries, and a safe haven. The dense plantings provide privacy for the house.
We encourage guests to join us in "living lightly on the planet" by conserving electricity and water and by composting kitchen waste and recycling. All applicable containers are provided to make this easy. With the windows open the house is very cool and comfortable, and there are ceiling fans throughout. Due to our environmental bias, we hope guests will enjoy the fresh breezes, but window air conditioners are available on request.
The house does NOT have a fax, television, or DSL, but a telephone line and/or TV can be arranged by advance request. A wireless internet cafe is within walking distance, as is the library where computers are available. We really encourage you, however, to use your stay in the house to slow down and enjoy the wonderful South Florida climate. Take a break from all the intrusive and stress-producing "modern conveniences" and experience a restful, slower-paced vacation!
Although not old by most standards, for South Florida this is an old house, built in the 1930s and moved to its present location. The floors are made of now unavailable Dade County Pine and the rooms are painted in restful colors. High ceilings in most rooms give a feeling of spaciousness.
